Heritage Drawing of Vauxhall
One of the things we wanted to create as part of the project was to showcase some of the incredible heritage in the Vauxhall area, particularly with regards to the RVT, which is set almost on the entrance to what was the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens.
We were lucky enough to be able to work with Robin Whitmore, who did some extensive research of the area and used this to develop a large pencil drawing map, highlighting key events, stories and places in the area. Robin had the opportunity to develop this further during Lambeth’s Heritage Month by continuing to work on it in the local Durning Library. This was a fantastic way for people to share their own stories and local knowledge with Robin, who was then able to add these to the map. People were genuinely interested in the project and loved seeing the map grow and become more and more detailed. Robin will be showcasing the map again on 18th February at the Lambeth Tate South Library as part of LGBT History Month. This will also be an opportunity to screen the final film ‘Happy Birthday RVT’ and talk about the project.
